Domotex is always cold and windy but this year we were treated to a beautiful snow fall the first day that created a winter wonderland atmosphere for a couple of days. This year’s attendance was definitely up from last year and when asked what most people thought of the mood they agreed that it was positive and focused on the future. The Aspecta booth was redesigned for the show to have more wall space to exhibit our product, which also made for more intimate spaces and customer interaction.
In wood flooring, parquet designs were the big new looks. From the traditional French cut layout to the traditional herringbone. In addition, manufacturers were showing different shapes in wood such as hexagons and random geometrics. Following this direction, LVT featured hexagon, triangle, and diamond shapes that could be done in different colors to create yet another shape or the one color creating a textural effect with the joint lines.
Another trend was the mixing of different colors of a given design that could make a “custom” layout with only a slight up charge for installation. This is something that we have promoted for 6 months now and both designers and installers really like the look and simplicity. This can be done with “dry back” or click, the planks and tiles just need to be the same product. Subtle color variations seem to be the most effective. Keep this in mind the next time you want to create interest in a room without the cost of custom orders and installation.
Floor colors were seen going lighter overall. This is in part due to how long the dark wood finishes have been used and the fact that kitchen colors are going lighter which affect family rooms that are commonly connected or adjacent to them.
Aspecta previewed our new “Aspecta 10” click floor with the patent pending waterproof “Isocore” technology, to the American contract market at Neocon 2015 to a great reception. Both designers and architects were excited about Aspecta 10 especially for the multi family and builders markets. This European introduction was no different with representatives from all countries expressing their excitement about the product and it’s advantages.
All in all there was not a lot of new colors or designs that stood out. It was the new waterproof flooring that was ever present and more use of combining colors in planks and tiles to create interest in spaces without becoming trendy or expensive. All of these trends I saw can be found on the Aspecta website with a little browsing and a lot of fun.
